Welcome to the Learning Canoe.
We hope your drift will be most enhancing.
I follow the basic framework of 4MAT; with a little flare of my own that works wonders.
Mode 1 is all about the importance of the subject matter, specifically focusing on relationships to other lessons, and bringing to light inspiring examples and meaningful case studies.
Mode 2 is the traditional layout of a lesson, including definitions, charts, graphs, pictures and other material that represents the lesson concepts.
Mode 3, I focus specifically on the practical part of the lesson, sometimes further breaking down the lesson in to a series of steps, and making the content into a simple, repeatable process. By practicing the concept in Mode 3, the most beneficial outcome for learners is the hands-on involvement with the lesson concepts.
Mode 4 is where it all comes together, this is the application part of the learning process where brain power and activity come together to aid my learners in the real world. I focus on combining other lessons with the current lesson, giving the learner an opportunity to explore and take risks. I encourage synthesizing anything not fully understood yet. By practicing the concept in Mode 4, the most beneficial outcome for learners is adding to their porfolio material. I encourage all learners to share how they used the subject matter, which I can then incorporate and reuse as examples for new learners in Mode 1.
The lessons are intended to be very low level and simple. Learners should know how to use email and basic functionality of Microsoft Office apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, Sway, Forms, Powerpoint, Flow, etc) to complete the lesson. I do not combine a concept of the lesson with other tools, apps, and software, although I am aware there are many that can be utilized to better practice concepts. It is in Mode 4 where learners should be taking the lesson to the max (above and beyond what is laid out in the lesson), hopefully applying it in their daily lives or combining it with other subject material as their private research and portfolio.
